UTeM has introduced the Smart Hydrobike, an innovative initiative designed to maintain the cleanliness of the Melaka River. UTeM researchers have created an IoT-based flood monitoring system designed to provide real-time water level tracking and early warning alerts. This innovation aims to enhance disaster preparedness, reduce flood risks, and support community safety. The project reflects UTeM’s ongoing effort to integrate smart technology into environmental monitoring.
UTeM, through Komuniti @Unimadani, launched a Vertical Urban Farming Project with the Orang Asli community in Bukit Payung, Alor Gajah. Led by Dr. Ahamed Fayeez Tuani Ibrahim, the project uses hydroponics and IoT technology to grow vegetables and generate extra income for the community. The first harvest in December 2024 was successfully sold to local buyers. This initiative promotes food security, sustainable farming, and community empowerment.
UTeM’s RICE UTeM-Melaka organised a workshop with Kampung Pulau residents to teach basic freshwater fish farming using modern aquaculture techniques. Led by Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Aisyah Anas, participants learned about fish care, water quality, and hands-on system management, helping the community explore new income opportunities.
